Who is 1v1 Soccer FC?

We are an individual skills development company that places emphasis on development of the individual. We emphasize individual creativity and game intelligence of our individual players over regimented team structures and team results.

1v1 Soccer FC was launched in 2000 and quickly established itself as one of Canada’s leading soccer development programs. We provide Elite training programs for boys and girls between the ages of 3-16+.

Why are we successful at developing the skills of young players?

The player is placed at the central point of learning! Our focus is always on the technical, tactical, physical and mental development of the individual player. Every child that enters our program is expected to leave our program, not only a better player but more importantly a better person. We believe that the player’s academic education must work “hand-in-hand” with their learning as a player.

Where is 1v1 Soccer FC based?

1v1 Soccer FC operates programs in Ancaster, Burlington and we will be expanded to additional locations in fall 2015 and winter 2016.

Who coaches the classes?

All our programs are designed and overseen by our founder, Ian McClurg. Ian McClurg is a  UEFA “ A” licensed coach and former Toronto FC Academy and Ontario Provincial team staff coach. During his career, Ian has worked with 6 players from the current Men’s U20 Canadian National team’s pool of players and 7 players from the current Canadian Women’s National Team.

All our staff are mentored and trained in the 1v1 Soccer FC coaching methodology and complete a significant amount of continued education. All our staff are progressing towards higher coaching licenses, under the guidance of Ian McClurg.    Learn more about our training methodology

What is the coach to player ratio?

Our maximum coach to players ratio is 1/12 players at our higher level programs . For younger ages our coach to players ratio is 1/8.

What will my child learn?

This will vary per class. However, all players will learn new skills in a positive and progressive learning environment. Aside from the actual technical and tactical instruction each player will experience an atmosphere that promotes positive values, good sportsmanship and teamwork.

What if my child is not sure that they will enjoy the program?

We offer a Free Trial class for new players in our Academy and skills classes so that they can sample our training program first – hand and decide if it is the right fit for them.

Do the players receive feedback on their skills?

All players will receive an  skills evaluation with measurable testing results. Players and parents can log into a web-based program to view their results and test themselves at home.  Players will also receive videos outlining skills that they can work on at home themselves.

How do I know which program to register for?

You can contact our office or email the players current level of playing experience. We can then place the player in what we feel would be the most appropriate program for their development. This will be further accessed after the first session by a member of our coaching staff to ensure that the player is getting challenged enough.

What if I can’t attend all the sessions?

We offer a flexible where parents can attend “make-up’ classes in the event that some are missed. Players can complete age-appropriate make-up classes anytime within their 12 week term.

What happens if training is cancelled due to the weather?

1v1 Soccer FC communicates any cancellations due to the weather via our website and social media programs such as Facebook and Twitter. We will also outline which classes can be attended as a make-up.

Who will my child be training with ?

Your child will be training with other players with similar levels of ability.  If your child is not being challenged enough or not at the same level of their current training group then we will reassign them to a more appropriate class to enhance their development

Can my child play at a club and also train with 1v1 Soccer FC?

Yes, 1v1 Soccer FC provides players and their families with the flexibility of Full-Time or Part-Time training programs

Will you help me get into a professional club?

1v1 Soccer FC has a direct link to the academy of a professional club in England – Wolverhampton Wanderers FC . We host an annual ID camp where Wolves FC academy coaches train our players and assess them for possible invitations to attend their academy in England for further training and assessment.

We have also had 8 young players train at the Toronto FC academy during the last 36 months.

There is no easy route to becoming a professional soccer player and 1v1 Soccer FC cannot promise to get trials for players, or obtain professional contracts. However, we do guarantee to maximise your skill levels and make sure that you compete at the highest level possible and include real opportunities to showcase your talent in front of Wolves FC Academy coaches.

For those players that have the necessary talent and determination to succeed, we will use our extensive international network of contacts and prepare letters of reference to help players pursue opportunities at professional clubs overseas, MLS academies, Provincial Programs and US Colleges and Canadian Universities. We can help guide you through the process to get you get off to the right start and launch a successful playing career.
